Supporting Every Child to 'Plant, Nurture, Flourish and Serve'

At Box,we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to plant strong foundations, be nurtured, flourish and develop their capacity to serve others, regardless of their background or circumstances.

We believe that every child is unique, has potential and deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our vision of Plant, Nurture, Flourish, Serve underpins our approach to supporting children experiencing disadvantage. We seek to create the conditions in which every child can develop confidence, build positive relationships, achieve academically, grow personally and make a positive contribution to their school and wider community.

Working closely with our Mosaic Partnership Trust, we are committed to ensuring all children can make progress from their starting points, regardless of circumstances.

The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for children experiencing disadvantage. Its central purpose is to help schools address inequalities in educational outcomes and ensure that all pupils can access the opportunities, support and experiences they need to thrive.

Research shows that children can encounter a range of barriers to learning at different points in their lives. Through the effective use of Pupil Premium funding, schools can improve the quality of first teaching and provide targeted support that helps pupils succeed academically, socially and emotionally, improving outcomes both now and in the future.

Our aim is not simply to remove barriers, but to help every child plant strong foundations, be nurtured through challenge, flourish in their learning and personal development, and develop the confidence and character to serve others.

Who is Eligible for Pupil Premium?

The government provides Pupil Premium funding for pupils who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Children who are currently entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) or have been eligible within the past six years.

  • Children who have been adopted from care or left care through a Special Guardianship Order, Child Arrangements Order or Residence Order.

  • Children who are currently looked after by a local authority.

While funding is linked to specific eligibility criteria, we recognise that disadvantage can be experienced in many different ways. Our schools work to understand the needs of their communities and, wherever possible, support children whose circumstances may impact their learning, wellbeing or engagement with school.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to flourish, and that support should be rooted in an understanding of the individual child, their strengths, aspirations and circumstances.

Our Approach at Box.

The Mosaic Partnership Trust is ambitious for every child. We believe that all pupils should experience high-quality teaching, positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging within their school community.

Our Plant, Nurture, Flourish, Serve vision shapes the way we think about this journey:

  • Plant – creating strong foundations for learning, confidence, belonging and aspiration.

  • Nurture – providing the relationships, encouragement and support children need to overcome barriers and grow.

  • Flourish – enabling every child to achieve academically, develop personally and experience success.

  • Serve – developing confident, compassionate children who understand the importance of contributing positively to others and their community.

Our strategy is informed by educational research on creating the conditions in which children can thrive. This includes:

  • Promoting excellent attendance and engagement with learning.

  • Building a positive, inclusive and nurturing school culture.

  • Developing strong relationships between children, families and staff.

  • Maintaining high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation.

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and personal development.

  • Ensuring pupils can access wider aspects of school life.

  • Developing pupils' confidence, character and sense of responsibility towards others.

We recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, connected and supported. By investing in these foundations, we aim to help children overcome barriers, flourish academically and personally, and develop the qualities they need to contribute positively to the world around them.

Poverty-Proofing the School Experience

Across our Trust, we are committed to poverty-proofing the school experience wherever possible. We continually review our school provision, trips and events to identify and reduce financial barriers that may affect participation in learning or wider school life.

Our aim is to ensure that no child feels excluded from opportunities because of their family's circumstances. Every child should be able to take part, build relationships, discover their strengths and experience the opportunities that help them to flourish.

To ensure this, we may offer support with:

  • Educational visits and enrichment activities.

  • Access to clubs and wider curriculum opportunities.

  • Resources required for learning.

  • Breakfast provision and other forms of practical support.

  • Family engagement and pastoral support.

By reducing barriers and creating inclusive opportunities, we help ensure that all children can participate fully in school life, develop a strong sense of belonging and build the confidence to flourish and serve their communities.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium funding is used to support three key areas:

1. High-Quality Teaching – Planting Strong Foundations

Evidence shows that high-quality teaching has the greatest impact on pupil outcomes. We therefore use funding to:

  • Develop staff expertise through professional development.

  • Strengthen classroom practice and curriculum delivery.

  • Provide additional teaching support where appropriate.

  • Ensure early identification of pupils' needs.

High-quality teaching helps us to plant strong foundations so that every child has the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make progress.

2.Targeted Academic Support – Nurturing Individual Potential

Where additional support is needed, schools provide carefully planned interventions that may include:

  • Reading support and early literacy development.

  • Mathematics support.

  • Speech and language assessment and intervention.

  • Small-group or individual support tailored to pupils' needs.

Our targeted support is designed to nurture individual potential, responding to children's specific needs while maintaining high expectations for their achievement.

3. Wider Strategies – Helping Children Flourish and Serve

Funding also supports approaches that improve children's readiness to learn and their wider development by focusing on:

  • Attendance and engagement.

  • Pastoral and wellbeing support.

  • Family support and partnership working.

  • Enrichment opportunities and personal development.

Many schools within the Trust have dedicated staff who work closely with children and families to provide pastoral support, promote regular attendance and strengthen home-school partnerships.

These wider strategies help children to flourish beyond the classroom, developing confidence, resilience, relationships and a sense of belonging. Through enrichment and personal development, we also seek to help children understand their strengths and recognise how they can contribute positively to others — beginning to develop the values of service that sit at the heart of our Trust vision.

All staff within our schools share responsibility for championing the progress, wellbeing and achievement of children experiencing disadvantage. Together, we work to ensure that every child can achieve academic success, flourish personally and be fully included in every aspect of school life.

We will continue to work with children, families and communities to remove barriers, nurture potential and create the opportunities every child needs to flourish and make a positive difference to others.
