The school year consists of 190 'pupil' days. In addition to these days, academies can set six further days during the year when the school is closed to the children. These are used for staff development (we call them SD Days).

Term dates for academy schools are set by the academy trust, with consideration of the local authority and neighbouring authorities, plus groups representing school staff.
