Sycamore Class Homework 7.3.25

Homework set Friday 7th March

Homework due in Wednesday 13th March

Year 6- Continue with your revision homework. Timetable attached below

Year 5- This week was World Book Day! For your homework, I would like you to think about your favourite book ever! It could be one that you’ve read recently, one that you read when you were younger or one that has been read to you. I would like you to create a book review.

  • Start with the title of the book and name of the author.
  • Give a summary of what happens.
  • Tell me why it is your favourite book- add detail here- really sell it to me.
  • Who would you recommend it to? - think ages and interests.
  • Finally, draw an illustration of the most interesting part or redesign the front cover.

Additional home learning activities:

  • Box Writing Competition

Any genre, any theme. Entries due in Thursday 20th March 2025.

Prize £10 book token for the winner of their category.

One overall winner will receive a £10 National Book Tokens gift card in their design for every child in their class and the opportunity for their class to visit a real bookshop, virtually or in person, to spend their National Book Tokens.

FIRST PRIZE in each age range wins: £350 National Book Tokens for the school and £100 National Book Tokens for the pupil

SECOND PRIZE in each age range wins: £200 National Book Tokens for the school and £50 National Book Tokens for the pupil

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, children should design a National Book Tokens gift card on the theme of Read Your Way. Here are some tips to bear in mind:

  • What does ‘read your way’ mean to you – and how can you explain this in pictures or designs?
  • What would make someone want to buy your gift card as a gift for someone else?
  • Look at real-life examples of gift cards in supermarkets and other shops – what do they have in common? Which ones do you like best and why?

A panel of judges will select a winner and runner-up in each of three age categories: up to 8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years.

All entries should be produced on A4 paper using the template (see below). Please ensure you provide the child’s name and age, and your contact details, on the second page of the form and bring this into school by Wednesday 26th March.

  • SciencePlease continue your moon diary and record daily. Look at the Moon each day for one month. Write down the date and time, and draw what the moon looks like. Shade the circle so that the section of the Moon that is illuminated remains. If you cannot see the Moon at all on a day, record this and also write down or draw why you could not see the Moon, e.g. a cloudy evening.
  • Reading: Please read as often as possible (aim for at least five times a week for 15 minutes or more). Remember to read aloud to an adult at least once a week, if you can. Remember you can access lots of free online books through the Wiltshire Learning Resource Hub  using your online account: https://lrh.wheelers.co
  • X-tables: Please log on to TTRock Stars and work on improving your heatmap (15-30 mins a week) https://play.ttrockstars.com/
  • Spellings: Remember to log on to Spelling Shed and practise your weekly spellings (20 mins) https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/menu
